The client was looking to renovate and extend this existing semi-detached house into the attic, exploiting the large roof space and elevated views overlooking the river Tay. A new open glass tread stair was designed, cantilevered from a new steel stringer, concealed within the existing party wall, to maximise light flooding into the existing hallway and stairwell, from a new patent glazing system in the South roof pitch. Frameless glass handrails and balustrades were also incorporated to maintain a free flowing space throughout the stairwell and in the new attic space.

New rooflight windows to the North elevation were installed at a level where stunning views towards Dundee could be seen from both a standing and seated position in the new loft space, whilst the roof structure was substantially trimmed and reinforced with steel rod ties to replace the existing lo timber structure.

A new large storage area was also created in the secondary roof void to the rear of the property, accessed from the half landing of the stair.
