This detached Arts and Crafts property in Farnham, Surrey was bought at the end of 2009 by a young family keen to expand their new home. The existing accommodation which formed a U shape around a conservatory at Ground Floor was originally to be replicated across the 1st floor, however sensitive consultation with neighbours and, and compliance with planning legislation meant the swooping 2 storey roof to the west of the property was to be retained in the primary elevation.

This led to an alternative solution where the existing rear hipped gable would be replicated, gradually stepping back to maintain rights of light to the adjacent property. Materials to the upper floors were specified to match the existing property, whilst at Ground Floor, a new glass wall protruding from the upper floors provides a light and modern, timeless replacement of the existing 80’s conservatory.
