  • We were appointed by our developer client for full design services to restore and convert a category B Listed Georgian Townhouse to an upper townhouse, with a separate basement apartment at lower level.  The property had been previously been used as commercial office space, with an existing apartment situated on the top floor. 

    Our brief was to convert the property back to its original intended use as a residential townhouse.  The design proposals sought to convert the townhouse into two residential units; from ground to fourth floor transformed back to an original Georgian Townhouse, with a separate and fully independent apartment at the basement level.

    The basement apartment unit consists of 2-bedrooms with an open plan living/dining/kitchen design suitable for contemporary family living. The townhouse unit comprises of 5 bedrooms with an exceptional drawing room, an open-plan living/dining room and adjoining large kitchen.  Much of the original Georgian period features have remained intact or been restored throughout the building.  The shared design ambition was to respect and celebrate the original historic detailing of the building. Working within the constraints of the listed building, we carefully considered any alterations within the principal rooms and spaces respecting the property’s history to ensure the original building fabric remained intact. All kitchen and bathroom designs were carried out separately by Kitchens Defined.

    Throughout the design process the original walls, doors, window shutters, ornate cornicing and plasterwork were preserved where possible and all existing decorative plasterwork, and original fireplaces were retained.  All statutory consents were received for the design and the project started on site in February 2022 and was completed following a one-year construction programme.
