  • Nestled in the west side of Edinburgh’s New Town, these 2 ‘side by side’ listed Mews property were reconfigured and refurbished to a very high standard to accommodate a City ‘holiday pad’ for two large families. The property which was dated with an ill-considered layout formed over many years of piecemeal development linking both properties now consists of four spacious bedrooms on first floor, with a large open plan kitchen / living / dining space and three bathrooms – two of which are large en-suites which serve the two large Master Bedrooms. On the Ground Floor, a domestic office space was created with direct access from the Mews Lane.

Existing partitions and small rooms were opened up to create a large modern open-planning living, kitchen and dining space, which lay at the core of the design, with fittings and finishes selected to create a contemporary feel within the historic fabric of the buildings which was revealed during the strip out of its construction.

Careful attention to detail and preservation of the historic fabric of the building was at the core of the design approach, highlighting structural elements such as the exposed ceiling ties above the large open living area to the front of the property.

Planning Approval, Listed Building Consent and Building Warrants were run concurrently and granted quickly within their statutory timescales. The construction process ran extremely smoothly and working closely with the contractor allowed for a timely completion in August 2022.
