Dunfuinary Cottage
Oban

  • Location: Connel, Oban

    Construction Value: £200,000

    Client: Private Client

  • This new holiday let cottage overlooks the tidal Loch Etive on the West Coast of Scotland.

The conceptual design of the cottage evolved from an early conversation on site with the client, who wanted a building which splayed out to the magnificent views West towards the Bridge of Connell. The design solution was split into 2 separate elements (Living and Service wings) with a circulation zone separating them, forming a splayed vista in plan and section, from the entrance, through the heart of the house and across the dining area, opening towards the Westerly view.

Planning was achieved following an arduous pre-application submission, working closely with various local authority departments which all contributed to the ultimate design. These included the roads department which stipulated extensive parking facilities, the floods department which set a high floor level in anticipation of 100 year flood levels of Loch Etive.
