Our client was in the process of undertaking the conversion and full refurbishment of this 4-storey Listed Georgian Townhouse, returning it from a commercial office use class to high-end residential apartments. Block Nine were appointed to review and update the existing architectural package, with a retrospective Stage 4 appointment, as well as a full appointment for Stages 5 and 6.

The drawings were reviewed and updated to enhance the level of detail and full construction information across all apartments, allowing for high specification open plan living with modern kitchen and designer ensuite bathrooms.

Careful consideration has been taken with the room layouts and material selection to create luxurious living environments. Each flat, despite a wide variety of size, follows similar principles with grand open plan kitchen / dining / living areas with immediate connection to the bedrooms. New ensuites were created following 2 typologies in order to create a consistent aesthetics throughout the building. All the original Georgian features of the listed building were retained and enhanced as it was paramount to link the original historic fabric of the building with the contemporary approach of the interior design.

Works began on site during the pandemic in 2020, and were eventually completed in mid 2022. Situated on the West End of Edinburgh’s New Town conservation area, the project was executed to a very high level of quality finish. This grand Listed Townhouse with spacious entrance hall and communal areas now offers a mix of studio and 1-bed ensuite apartments for short-term rental and holiday lets.
