Our appointment for the new West London Line Station in Shepherd’s Bush was as project architect during construction stages. We were novated and provided architectural support to the contractor for the detailed design packages under a design and build contract for this major new transport landmark.
The station formed a primary access point to the Westfield Shopping Centre which opened in October 2008 and draws 12 million visitors annually, the majority of which will use public transport for their journey, arriving in a transport interchange which includes this overland train station, a London underground station and bus station.
The steel framed building, clad in brushed stainless steel panels and planar glazing, forms a landmark entrance to Westfield and played a major part in initiating the ongoing regeneration of Shepherds Bush Green.
Complexities during the construction of the station included building around the West London line, a live major commuter rail route between Willesden Junction and Kensington, and large scale engineering works including the deep excavation and retention of ground against the shopping centre to align the platform levels with the existing rail lines.
