Nanny Cay Hotel
British Virgin Islands

  • Location: Tortola, British Virgin Islands

    Client: Nanny Cay Marina

  • The Nanny Cay Hotel project is located on the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Nanny Cay is a highly successful marina well respected within the sailing community and an important hub for some of the world’s most esteemed regattas. Our client has owned and managed this marina for over 15 years.

BLOCK NINE has previously worked with the client to deliver a new marina in Nanny Cay to accommodate up to 100 new docks and completed the full design and construction package for 8 new condominium blocks and a luxury pool facility.

Unfortunately Tortola and Nanny Cay were directly in the path of the devastating Hurricane Irma of 2017. In the aftermath of the hurricane the client realised a unique and rare opportunity to build a new, purpose built hotel. BLOCK NINE ARCHITECTS were again approached and appointed as project architects to assist with this new project.

The proposal was to demolish part of the old, damaged hotel complex and construct a new, superior 18 bed hotel. Up until then there had been no new hotels built in the Marina. This would regenerate the area, attract more visitors to the island and assist the growth of the local economy. The new hotel and rooms would offer an exclusive opportunity to design a well-constructed building much more suited to the marina community that had emerged in the last decade. Working with a strong traditional Caribbean influence a design strategy to strictly adhere to hurricane code standard was developed.

A full detailed design and construction package was prepared by BLOCK NINE and the project was successfully delivered in 2021.
